In the very heart of Kyiv, on Tereshchenkivska Street, more than a hundred years ago, the first Ukrainian foreign affairs institution operated. It was here, in the Tereshchenko House, that Ukrainian diplomacy of the UNR era was being formed.

Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, IMERSUM created the VR museum «The House Where Ukrainian Diplomacy Was Born» – a virtual reconstruction of this historic building. For the first time, anyone can walk through the halls where Hrushevskyi, Shulhyn, Doroshenko, Surovtsova, and other figures worked, fighting for Ukraine’s right to be heard in the world.

What’s inside

  • Meticulously recreated interiors of the early 20th century: the minister’s office, consular department, ceremonial hall and the personal office of Nadiia Surovtsova.
  • Interactive exhibits: documents, photos, archival videos, 3D busts, maps, quotes, historical artefacts.
  • Audio guide and soundscape of Kyiv in 1918.

Cultural value

This VR museum is an example of digital diplomacy and the preservation of national memory in new formats. It shows how technology can help communicate a complex past in a way that resonates with modern audiences. It is also a tool for diplomats – as part of cultural presentations abroad, for teachers and researchers – as an interactive educational resource, and for the public – as a vivid experience of the history of independence.

«Our work abroad must be a powerful force that constitutes our connection and our defense in Europe,» wrote UNR diplomats.

We have made this force visible in virtual space.
