In partnership with Voloshyn Gallery, the IMERSUM team developed a VR version of the exhibition «Looking Through the Gaps» – a large-scale curatorial project that rethinks Ukrainian art through the lens of historical loss, interrupted narratives and unexpected connections. The digital version of the exhibition became a natural continuation of the offline event, preserving its context in a virtual environment.
Project Goals
- Preserve the exhibition in digital form as part of Ukraine’s national cultural heritage;
- Expand access to contemporary Ukrainian art through immersive VR;
- Innovatively present the curatorial narrative – not only preserving the artworks but also the conceptual framework of the exhibition.
The virtual space brings together dozens of artists – both renowned figures and contemporary voices – including Maria Prymachenko, Nikita Kadan, Vlada Ralko, Kateryna Lysovenko, Oleh Holosiy, Tiberiy Silvashi, Fedor Tetyanych, and others.

Technical Implementation
- Architectural reconstruction of Voloshyn Gallery preserving scale, lighting, color palette and spatial logic;
- Interactive navigation allowing users to freely move through the exhibition halls, stop at artworks and read curatorial texts;
- Interface with descriptions and context for each exhibit;
- Optimized for Meta Quest 2/3.
The project is ideally suited for cultural presentations of Ukraine abroad, use in educational institutions and museums, and for display at festivals, art forums and digital platforms.
Cultural Value
The VR version of «Looking Through the Gaps» is an example of how an exhibition can exist beyond the boundaries of physical space. In conditions of instability and wartime, this format not only preserves but also actualizes important artistic statements, allowing art to live, transform and interact with new audiences. The project became a significant step toward the digitization of contemporary Ukrainian art and opens new horizons for its presentation to the world.
