A new space has appeared in Zaporizhzhia that combines coffee, contemporary art and digital technology. The IMERSUM team implemented the AR installation «Marychka» – an interactive mosaic that transforms into an animated figure in augmented reality using a smartphone.
Concept
«Marychka» is a visual heroine created at the intersection of Ukrainian art, craftsmanship and digital interpretation. She comes alive directly from the wall: looking around, moving, making eye contact with the viewer. This form of interaction turns an ordinary café space into a location for an art experience.
Implementation and Technical Solutions
The mosaic was created specifically for the café space: its form, color palette and composition were designed with both artistic vision and AR activation in mind. Thanks to marker-based technology, the image on the wall becomes a marker – when a user points their smartphone at it, the image comes to life.
Augmented reality works directly in the smartphone browser without requiring the user to download any apps. The interface is intuitive and simple: the viewer opens a link, points the camera and sees the digital Marychka in motion.
- Development of AR animation in 3D graphics;
- Integration with WebAR (works on iOS / Android);
- Optimization for marker-based activation (the mosaic acts as the AR trigger);
- Adaptation to the physical proportions of the mosaic and space.
Cultural Value
This project introduces new formats for presenting art in public spaces. It is an example of how cultural objects can function beyond institutional boundaries and proves that modern cultural practices can be accessible and engaging for audiences of any age and background.
